I hope you like my snowboard size calculator.
More accurate than a simple size chart, this calc lets you know
your size snowboard to use. Just enter in your specs and
click CALCULATE. Of course you can use any size you
want, this is merely a recommendation.
Shorter boards are easier to control. They allow
you to turn quicker and spin faster. They are great for
freestyle and lower speed riding. Longer boards
make slower turns and are beneficial for floatation in deep snow and
stability at higher speeds.
In sizing snowboards, board width is more important than length. A
snowboarder with a board that is too long or short can
adjust, but an ill-fitted width is nearly impossible to
use. Too narrow and your toes will drag resulting
in the edge releasing and loss of control. Too
wide and it makes edging and carving too strenuous.
Width is measured as "waist width" in millimeters.
There are three major styles of riding.
Freestyle incorporates park, halfpipe, and slopestyle. When you think of freestyle, think Shawn White.
Freestyle boards tend to be shorter to make them easier to manuver both on park features and in the air.
Freeride boards are designed to be ridden all over the mountain. They typically are built a little longer to stay afloat in powder and handle higher speeds.
Freestyle/Freeride is a comprimise between the two for those who like to do it all!
